Our History
OUR HISTORYOpened in 1987, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess emerged during a defining moment in Scottsdale’s development, as the area transformed from a quiet Western town into a world-class resort destination. Conceived as part of a master-planned effort to elevate the city’s leisure and golf profile, the hotel debuted alongside TPC Scottsdale, which immediately gained national attention as the new home of the WM Phoenix Open. The Spanish Colonial architecture, lush gardens, and lagoon-style landscaping introduced a new standard of Southwestern luxury, one that honored the surrounding area while offering a fullservice resort experience. Over the decades, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has continued to shape Scottsdale’s identity. Its celebrated dining venues reflect the region’s evolving culinary landscape. Meanwhile, the 44,000-sq. ft. Well & Being Spa has become a destination in its own right, known for innovative wellness and fitness programs. Today, as a AAA Five Diamond resort since 1991, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess remains a cornerstone of Scottsdale’s refined yet relaxed desert appeal and history.

Q&A BOURBON STEAKBOURBON STEAK
What local ingredients or flavors from Arizona inspire you the most when creating dishes at Bourbon Steak?
How does Bourbon Steak balance Michael Mina’s signature steakhouse flair with Southwest design and atmosphere?
Arizona’s bounty offers endless inspiration. From mesquite and pecan wood used for our signature slow-grilling to produce sourced from nearby farms, each ingredient reflects the richness of the region. I’m especially drawn to Sonoran chilies, Arizona citrus, and desert herbs like sage and thyme—flavors that bring brightness and depth to every dish. At Bourbon Steak, these local notes are elevated through my signature touch—refined technique, layered flavor, and an unmistakable sense of indulgence. The result is a menu that celebrates the spirit of the Southwest while embodying the artistry and precision that define the Bourbon Steak experience.
Bourbon Steak embodies the soul of a classic Mina steakhouse, seamlessly intertwined with the warmth and texture of the Southwest. The ambiance reflects Arizona’s natural beauty—rich leathers, copper accents, and desert-inspired hues that echo the surrounding landscape. In the kitchen, my signature techniques—such as slow-poached steaks and the renowned butter service—meet locally influenced ingredients and refined, desert-inspired presentation. The experience balances sophistication with a true sense of place, where luxury feels effortless, and authenticity shines through. At once timeless and distinctly Scottsdale, Bourbon Steak offers a dining experience that is elegant, grounded, and defined by my unmistakable touch.
The experience balances sophistication with a true sense of place, where luxury feels effortless, and authenticity shines through.
Could you walk us through a dish on the menu that best captures the spirit of Bourbon Steak, and what makes its flavor story unique? Our A5 Miyazakigyu Wagyu embodies the very essence of Bourbon Steak—luxury, craftsmanship, and an intimate connection to the guest experience. Each cut is prepared with meticulous care, allowing its exquisite marbling and richness to shine while showcasing the unique flavor profiles from regions across Japan. Presented tableside, the experience engages every sense—sight, sound, and aroma—creating a moment that is both indulgent and thoughtful. Paired with a signature craft cocktail or a bold Arizona red, this dish tells a story of artistry and authenticity, blending time-honoured technique with modern innovation for a steakhouse experience that is as refined as it is unforgettable.
If a first-time guest asked you what makes Bourbon Steak unforgettable, what story would you tell them? What makes Bourbon Steak truly unforgettable is the personal, immersive experience we create for every guest. We don’t simply serve dinner—we craft a story that unfolds with each course. From the moment guests are welcomed by the aroma of butter-poached steaks and our famous signature duck fat fries to the artful tableside presentations and attentive service, every detail is thoughtfully considered. Bourbon Steak is where my culinary precision meets genuine Southwestern hospitality. Guests savor not only the flavors on their plates but also the warmth and care in every interaction. This harmony of indulgence and connection is what lingers long after the final bite.
‘Seasonal shifts inspire creativity’
When a new season arrives, what’s the first thing you look forward to bringing onto the menu?
With each new season, I look forward to ingredients that tell the story of Arizona’s ever-changing landscape— vibrant spring citrus, sun-ripened heirloom tomatoes in summer, or earthy mushrooms and squash in the fall. Seasonal shifts inspire creativity, allowing us to reimagine classic steakhouse favorites through the lens of fresh, local produce. We highlight what’s at its peak, pairing it with signature elements like aged beef or daily-fresh seafood. The menu reflects the rhythm of the desert—bold yet refined, rooted in the land yet globally inspired. Even within a steakhouse, there is always space for discovery, innovation, and delight.
Each private dining space, from the Chef’s Table to patio seating, tells its own story. How do you use these settings to create memorable moments for guests?
Each private dining space at Bourbon Steak is crafted to tell its own distinctive story. The Chef’s Table places guests at the heart of the kitchen—intimate, dynamic, and engaging—while the Patio celebrates Scottsdale’s desert beauty, offering golden sunsets and the gentle warmth of firelight. Every experience is thoughtfully tailored, from curated tasting menus to personalized wine pairings, ensuring each occasion feels exceptional. Whether celebrating a milestone or enjoying a quiet evening with friends, every detail— from the menu to the ambiance—is designed to create moments that feel uniquely personal, leaving guests with memories they will treasure long after the evening ends.
Authentic Mexican Flavors with a Modern Twist
Dine in style at the best Mexican restaurant in Scottsdale, La Hacienda. A Richard Sandoval concept, La Hacienda offers traditional, upscale Mexican fare infused with innovation, from fresh guacamole crafted tableside and served alongside an unmatched selection of tequilas and agave cocktails to slow-braised pork carnitas with sweet corn and habanero.
Q&A LA HACIENDA By Richard Sandoval CELEBRITY CHEFLa Hacienda brings modern Mexican cuisine to life in Scottsdale. What inspired this concept, and how do you bring it to the menu?
La Hacienda was created to celebrate the rich traditions of Mexican cuisine in a way that feels both traditional and fresh. I was inspired by my upbringing in Mexico City, where food was not just nourishment but a way of connecting family and friends. In Scottsdale, we wanted to bring that same sense of warmth and authenticity while elevating the dining experience. The collaboration with Executive Chef Forest Hamrick ensures the menu reflects both heritage and innovation. From freshly made guacamole to Carnitas Hacienda, every dish is designed to transport guests to Mexico while creating memorable moments at the table.
How do traditional Mexican techniques and flavors influence your dishes while allowing room for modern creativity?
Tradition provides the foundation for everything we do at La Hacienda. Mexican cuisine is built on techniques like slow braising, hand-pressing tortillas, and carefully balancing spice and acidity. These methods guide our approach, ensuring authenticity in flavor and preparation. At the same time, we introduce creativity through presentation and thoughtful twists that surprise our guests. For example, our enchiladas highlight deeply traditional sauces like mole de abuela, but we pair them with proteins and accompaniments that feel contemporary. This balance allows us to preserve heritage while welcoming innovation, so guests experience dishes that are both deeply rooted and refreshingly modern.
Can you share the story behind a signature dish at La Hacienda and what makes it special for guests?
One of our most beloved dishes is Carnitas Hacienda. This dish represents the heart of Mexican cooking, where simple ingredients become extraordinary through technique and patience. Carnitas, originating from Michoacán, are slow-braised until perfectly tender, then paired with salsa verde, árbol salsa, guacamole, and escabeche. At La Hacienda, we prepare this dish with respect for tradition while elevating it with thoughtful accompaniments that make it feel celebratory. Guests love it because it feels soulful and comforting, yet refined enough for a special night out. It is a dish that tells a story of heritage, care, and the passion behind our kitchen.
How do seasonal ingredients or locally sourced produce shape your menu offerings? Seasonal produce is central to how we approach the menu at La Hacienda. Working in Arizona allows us to partner with local farmers and purveyors who provide incredible citrus, chiles, and vegetables that thrive in the desert climate. These fresh ingredients help us adapt our menu to reflect the seasons, making dishes lighter and more refreshing in summer or heartier and more robust during the cooler months. For example, our roasted beet salad showcases produce when it is at peak ripeness, while esquites highlight the sweet corn so emblematic of Mexican street food. By focusing on seasonality, we ensure every dish feels vibrant and deeply connected to the land.
What guest moments, whether a meal, cocktail, or celebration, best capture the spirit of La Hacienda? The spirit of La Hacienda comes alive during shared celebrations. One of my favorite moments is seeing a table order our tableside guacamole sampler, where guests can enjoy variations with carnitas, esquites, or pomegranate while laughing and toasting. It embodies the social, interactive nature of Mexican dining. I also see the magic when families gather for a birthday or couples mark a special occasion, and the meal becomes part of their story. Our dishes are created to inspire connection, and whether it is through tequila flights, sizzling fajitas, or a decadent dessert, these moments capture the warmth and joy that define La Hacienda.
The cocktail program at La Hacienda is known for its innovative tequila and mezcal drinks. How do you approach pairing drinks with your menu? Tequila and mezcal are more than spirits at La Hacienda — they are cultural expressions of Mexico. Our Beverage Director, John Wilhelm, has created a program that honors tradition while experimenting with innovation. When pairing cocktails with food, we focus on enhancing balance. A bright, citrus-forward tequila cocktail complements seafood like our shrimp ceviche, while a smoky mezcal drink highlights the depth of mole or carnitas. We also craft cocktails to take guests on a journey, beginning with refreshing flavors to open the palate and ending with bold, complex drinks that linger after a meal. The result is a beverage experience that is as thoughtfully layered as the food on the table.
What excites you most about the future of La Hacienda, whether in terms of cuisine, cocktails, or guest experiences? The future of La Hacienda excites me because it offers endless opportunities to evolve while remaining rooted in Mexican tradition. Guests today are more curious than ever, and they want both authenticity and discovery. Together with Chef Forest Hamrick, we will continue exploring regional influences, incorporating new ingredients, and finding creative ways to tell the stories of Mexico’s diverse culinary heritage. On the beverage side, I see continued innovation in tequila and mezcal, giving guests new ways to appreciate agave spirits. Above all, what excites me most is the opportunity to create unforgettable experiences, where guests not only enjoy a meal but also feel immersed in Mexican culture.
These fresh ingredients help us adapt our menu to reflect the seasons, making dishes lighter and more refreshing in summer or heartier and more robust during the cooler months.

TORO SCOTTSDALE
Q&A
By Richard Sandoval
CELEBRITY CHEF
Toro offers a vibrant fusion of Latin flavors. What inspired this vision, and how do you bring it to life on the menu?
How do you blend traditional Latin techniques with modern culinary trends to create Toro’s distinctive dishes?
Toro was inspired by my travels throughout Latin America, where I encountered an incredible range of flavors, from the coastal ceviches of Peru to the bold grilling traditions of Argentina. I wanted to create a restaurant that captured that diversity in one dynamic experience. The menu showcases everything from Nikkei-style sushi rolls like our Hamachi Nikkei to hearty classics such as Lomo Saltado. With Executive Chef Gage Smit leading the culinary team, we bring this vision to life daily through attention to detail and creative presentation. Guests can experience dishes that honor Latin traditions while also reflecting global influences, making each visit to Toro both familiar and adventurous.
At Toro, the starting point is always tradition. Techniques like curing seafood in leche de tigre, marinating meats in achiote, or grilling over open flame are part of the DNA of Latin cuisine. Once that foundation is in place, we layer in modern trends to elevate the dining experience. Our Tuna Tiradito, for example, stays true to Peruvian inspiration yet includes passion fruit ponzu and burrata, a contemporary twist that surprises guests. Chef Gage Smit and the team balance heritage with creativity, ensuring every dish feels both authentic and fresh. This approach allows Toro to stand out as a place where Latin tradition meets global culinary innovation.
Could you share the story behind a dish that encapsulates Toro’s culinary identity, highlighting its flavors and cultural influences?
Our Lomo Saltado is a dish that perfectly expresses Toro’s culinary identity. It is rooted in Peru’s chifa tradition, a cuisine born from Chinese and Peruvian influences. We prepare it with beef tenderloin, crispy potato, heirloom tomato, and a savory chifa soy sauce, then finish it with rocoto aioli for spice. It embodies fusion in the best sense, respecting tradition while embracing global techniques. Guests love it because it feels hearty, soulful, and full of flavor, yet it is presented in a way that feels refined. To me, it tells the story of Latin cuisine today — dynamic, multicultural, and always evolving — which is exactly what Toro represents.
What aspects of Toro’s ambiance do you believe most contribute to making a meal here unforgettable?
Toro’s ambiance was designed to capture the energy and warmth of Latin hospitality. The space is vibrant, filled with lively music and a social buzz that invites guests to relax and celebrate. There is a sense of theater as well, from the artistry of our sushi bar to the dramatic tableside presentation of the Churrasco or Tomahawk, carved with flair for the table.
At the same time, the restaurant has intimate corners that make it just as inviting for a quiet dinner. What makes the atmosphere unforgettable is how it seamlessly blends festivity with refinement, creating an environment where every guest feels part of something special, whether they come for cocktails, sushi, or a full Latin feast.
With an extensive rum selection, how do you approach pairing beverages with your dishes to elevate the dining experience?
Rum plays an important role in Latin culture, and at Toro it serves as a bridge between the bar and the kitchen. We focus on its versatility to enhance the dining experience. A light, citrus-forward rum pairs beautifully with ceviches like our Ceviche Amarillo, highlighting freshness and acidity. Rich, aged rums complement dishes like our Honey Braised Short Ribs, adding depth and warmth. Beyond straight pours, our cocktail program explores rum’s complexity in creative ways, from refreshing tropical-style drinks to bold, spirit-forward sips. Working alongside Chef Gage Smit, the goal is always harmony — ensuring that the food and drinks build on one another, so guests experience a complete journey of flavor.
To me, it tells the story of Latin cuisine today — dynamic, multicultural, and always evolving — which is exactly what Toro represents.

New Mexican cuisine is very Mexican, but with its own style. I have traveled to Mexico City to dine at some of the world’s most upscale Mexican restaurants, and visit the local markets, also known as Mercados. I am continuing my travels throughout Mexico to learn more about the culture and different cuisines from state to state, pueblo to pueblo.
A graduate of Scottsdale Culinary Institute with an Associates of Occupational Studies Degree in Culinary Arts and Science and Restaurant Management, Chef Hamrick started at the resort’s three-meal restaurant, LV Bistro, as Executive Chef and went on to run La Hacienda as Chef de Cuisine, winning the AAA Four Diamond award for three consecutive years and the 85255 Iron Chef Competition in 2006.
Gage Smit – Toro
Executive Chef Gage was born and raised on a 10-acre banana farm in Maui, HI, which instilled in him an enormous respect for the land, food, and how to prepare it. The culinary diversity and emphasis on Asian flavors are abundant in Hawaiian cuisine, marked by bright acidity and fresh seafood, making it a natural fit when he became situated at Toro at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. His formative years were spent in the home kitchen, which naturally led to a career in food and beverage. After attending culinary school at the University of Maui College, he was part of the opening culinary team for the Andaz in Hawaii and, at the age of 21, was offered his first major position as Chef de Cuisine at The Fitz Bar and Restaurant in Vail, Colorado. Following this, Hawaii called Gage back home to start his career with Fairmont Hotels at the Fairmont Orchid. He initially started in banquets and was quickly promoted to Chef of their signature restaurant, Brown’s Beach House, specializing in local produce and highlighting partnerships with local ranchers and fishermen to serve an elevated Hawaiian cuisine. Other establishments he was able to work for include Eleven Madison Park in New York with Chef Daniel Humm, McCrady’s in Charleston, South Carolina, with Chef Sean Brock, and Vintage Cave in Honolulu with Chef Jonathan Mizukami.

The desert landscape is unique. How does the environment influence the treatments and services offered at the spa?
The spa offers a variety of fitness classes. How do these classes enhance the overall wellness journey for guests?
Our spa blends natural, locally sourced ingredients, like cactus extract, desert botanicals, and healing minerals, into therapies that nourish. Our signature Havasupai Falls Rejuvenation Body Treatment is a soul-renewing journey: sage smudging purifies energy, a desert salt scrub and warm rain shower wash away stress, and a mineral-rich magnesium soak, jojoba butter massage, and chilled Gua Sha stones restore balance. A rejuvenating clay mask, blissful scalp massage, and soothing herbal wrap leave skin glowing and renewed. Seasonal offerings, inspired by the desert’s sun and warmth, create rituals that hydrate, protect, and rejuvenate.
Our fitness classes are designed to complement the relaxation and healing offered in the spa, creating a holistic wellness experience. From yoga and pilates to cardio and strength sessions, each class focuses on improving physical health while promoting mental clarity and emotional balance. Regular participation enhances energy, flexibility, and resilience, allowing guests to fully enjoy their spa treatments. The classes also provide guidance on mindful movement, posture, and breathing, which guests can integrate into daily life. By combining fitness with restorative therapies, we ensure a comprehensive approach to well-being. Guests leave feeling physically stronger, mentally centered, and more connected to their overall wellness journey.
Trish Hayes Director of Spa
With amenities like the rooftop pool, waterfall grotto, steam room with eucalyptus, sauna, and cold plunge, how do these features contribute to a holistic spa experience? Each amenity at Well & Being Spa is thoughtfully designed to support a complete experience. The rooftop pool offers serenity and spectacular views, encouraging relaxation and mindfulness. The waterfall grotto engages multiple senses—sight, sound, and touch—with varying water pressures that provide a natural massage experience. Guests can also enjoy the steam room with eucalyptus, the sauna, and the invigorating cold plunge, enhancing both relaxation and circulation. Together, these features create an immersive atmosphere where guests can transition seamlessly between treatments, relaxation, and reflection. By addressing multiple aspects of wellness—visual, auditory, olfactory, and physical—we ensure that every visit is not just a spa treatment but a deeply restorative and transformative journey.
What feedback do you often receive from guests about their experiences at the spa, and how does it influence future offerings? Guests consistently praise our spa for its personalized care, attention to detail, and serene environment. They often highlight the transformative nature of treatments, noting how each experience leaves them rejuvenated and balanced. Feedback also emphasizes the value of our holistic approach, combining fitness, skincare, and relaxation for total wellness. We listen carefully to these insights, using them to refine services, introduce new therapies, and enhance amenities. By responding to guest preferences and emerging wellness trends, we ensure every visit meets the highest expectations. Their input shapes seasonal offerings, inspires innovations, and reinforces our commitment to providing an exceptional, tailored experience that exceeds expectations every time.
How do seasonal changes in Scottsdale influence the spa’s offerings and treatments?
Scottsdale’s changing seasons inspire a dynamic approach to our spa offerings. In the warmer months, treatments focus on hydration, cooling therapies, and sun protection, often incorporating light, and refreshing ingredients like aloe and cucumber. During cooler months, we emphasize warming massages, rich moisturizers, and restorative rituals to nourish skin and body. Seasonal shifts also influence aromatherapy, music, and ambient elements to align with nature’s rhythms. By embracing these changes, we provide guests with therapies that are both effective and harmonious with their environment. This seasonal adaptation ensures each visit feels fresh, relevant, and aligned with the desert’s natural energy, enhancing wellness and the overall spa experience.
What innovations or new services can guests look forward to at Well & Being Spa in the near future?
We continually evolve to anticipate our guests’ wellness needs and reflect the latest trends. Guests can look forward to immersive treatments that blend advanced technology with natural, therapeutic ingredients, from customized facials to signature body therapies and integrative wellness programs that harmonize mindfulness, movement, and restorative techniques. Additional offerings are on the horizon, thoughtfully designed to elevate the guest experience and exceed expectations. Enhancements to our amenities and seasonal rituals further enrich every visit. Each experience is crafted to nurture physical, mental, and emotional well-being, leaving guests feeling renewed, balanced, and inspired to continue their wellness journey long after departing the spa.

FAIRMONT SCOTTSDALE PRINCESS 55
Our Hotel
Grayhawk Golf Club and the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess
ELEVATING THE GAME:
INSIDE THE PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN GRAYHAWK GOLF CLUB AND THE FAIRMONT SCOTTSDALE PRINCESS
With two 18-hole golf courses and spectacular scenery, Grayhawk Golf Club has become one of Scottsdale’s most renowned daily fee golf clubs since it first opened in 1994. Under the ownership of Arcis Golf, the Grayhawk team discusses how their unique amenities and close relationship with the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess allow them to create an unmatched golf experience for their guests.
Scottsdale is synonymous with golf. What in particular makes the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess stand out in such a competitive landscape?
Can you share a memorable story or experience from your time assisting guests with their golfing needs at the resort?
Do you find that guests are surprised by the terrain when playing in Scottsdale for the first time? Is there anything they should anticipate about the unique challenges and beauties when playing in the Sonoran Desert?
Grayhawk: I think with desert golf, the visual optics when you stand on the first tee — it’s just different versus a tree-lined fairway. It’s wide open. Generally speaking, when people are in town, they’re looking for that true Arizona, wild west, desert golf experience. They will experience it on both courses at Grayhawk — the Raptor and the Talon course.
Water is also a real issue in the state of Arizona, and we do an incredible job with the quality of the turf. We treat recycled water very well, and the golf industry in Arizona uses less than 2% of the water in the state, which people are blown away by. Our sunrises and sunsets are unmatched in the world.
How do the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and Grayhawk tailor and harmonize golf offerings to enhance each guest’s experience?
Grayhawk: A golf concierge is located at the Fairmont. Although the Fairmont may not offer private lessons or equipment rentals on-site, we provide these services here at Grayhawk. We also have one of the top golf shops in the country, so our retail efforts are unbelievable.
Likewise, our food and beverage offerings are off the charts — we have great restaurants and a great snack bar, with five unique experiential dining options available. We’re essentially a resort without rooms.
Ultimately, what it comes down to is that everybody is looking for something different from their experience. Whether it’s golf or staying at the resort, it’s about connecting with the customer and finding out what they want. Once you understand what they want, then you can tailor it. It seems pretty simple, but you’d be amazed at how many resorts don’t ask, “What are you looking for?”
What feedback do you receive from guests about their experiences?
Grayhawk: Often, they ask us whether we’re a private facility because they feel like they’re treated like they’re at their home club. Our standard of service is to treat everybody as though they are a member for the day, and people keep coming back because we maintain that high-end quality.
The Fairmont has that sense of arrival, which is beyond a lot of the limited service hotels in Scottsdale. It can even be intimidating for people who aren’t used to it. They maintain a welcoming atmosphere and take care of guests from the moment they walk in the door. So we love that we can match our service levels to what their guests are experiencing.
Generally speaking, when people are in town, they’re looking for that true Arizona, wild west, desert golf experience.

Q&A RETAILThe Shops at the Princess offer everything from luxury fashion to artisan home décor. How do you decide which brands and pieces best express the spirit of Scottsdale and the resort?
At The Shops at the Princess, we curate through the lens of the resort’s elevated, timeless, and effortlessly sophisticated identity. Each brand and product must reflect the level of excellence our guests expect from the Fairmont experience. We look for collections that combine refined design, quality craftsmanship, and versatile pieces that transition seamlessly from resort leisure to everyday luxury. Ultimately, our assortment is about emotional connection: guests should feel inspired, indulged, and reminded of the extraordinary moments they experienced here.
Each season, we draw inspiration from the emotions we want our guests to experience: refreshed, confident, and connected to the resort lifestyle. The themes evolve with the mood of the season, from vibrant poolside color stories, to elegant neutrals that transition into resort evenings. Every collection is carefully selected to make guests feel like they’re taking a piece of the Princess experience home— elevated and undeniably chic.
Guests often shop for a memento of their stay. What’s your personal favorite piece or moment when a guest connected with something special here?
Reflections, your seasonal swim and resort accessory shop, really captures the resort lifestyle. What inspires the themes and products you select each season?
Reflections is designed to embody the feeling of an endless vacation, relaxed sophistication, effortless beauty, and the joy of time spent under the Arizona sun.
EXPERIENCESMy personal favorite offering is our Candle Bar Experience in Same River Twice. Our guests are invited to try our candle-making experience, guided by one of our skilled candle artisans. We offer a curated selection of premium, desert-inspired fragrances, each capturing the essence of the breathtaking Southwest. Each candle becomes more than a scent; it’s a memory, a way to bring the feeling of the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess home long after their stay.
Do you work with local artisans or designers to bring one-of-a-kind items to The Shops? If so, how do those partnerships reflect place and craftsmanship?
One of the most sought-after collaborations in The Spa Boutique is our Desert Soul apothecary line, a custom collection created exclusively for the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in partnership with LATHER. The fragrance draws inspiration from the tranquility and beauty of the Sonoran Desert, blending soft notes of agave, sage, and sun-warmed amber to evoke the same serenity our guests experience during their stay. What makes it truly special is how deeply it captures a sense of place more than a fragrance; it’s the essence of the Princess experience, beautifully bottled. Guests often share that using Desert Soul at home instantly transports them back to the calm, luxury, and warmth of their time with us.
Are there items exclusive to the resort, whether limited-edition gifts or regionally influenced pieces, that consistently delight returning guests?
One of the most talked-about experiences among our returning guests is the Hat Bar — where style meets storytelling. Guests begin by selecting from a collection of beautifully crafted hat silhouettes, then personalize their design with curated trims, charms, and even a signature mark using our customized branding irons. Each piece becomes a true original, reflecting both the guest’s individuality and the resort’s spirit of bespoke luxury. It’s more than a purchase — it’s an experience of creativity and connection, resulting in a keepsake guests proudly wear long after their stay. The Hat Bar embodies everything that makes our retail collection special: interactive, elevated, and distinctly the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess.
Your retail spaces transition with resort events and seasonality. Could you share an example of how The Shops’ offerings shift throughout the year to stay fresh and relevant?
As we move from summer into fall, The Shops start to take on that cozy, layered feeling — elevated denim, soft knits, and those easy transitional pieces that are perfect for cool desert evenings yet still feel very resort-chic. Then, as we approach the holidays, the energy shifts and a new kind of magic fills the resort. It’s truly the Season of Giving at the Princess. Our specialty boutiques are filled with thoughtfully curated collection pieces you simply won’t find anywhere else. We design the experience for those moments when you want to surprise someone who already has everything with something meaningful, personal, and memorable. The Christmas Shoppe, which opens in November, is the heart of it all — featuring limited-edition collaborations, custom ornaments, matching family pajamas, and those special finds that make gifting feel effortless and heartfelt.
If someone had only a few minutes to stop by The Shops, what standout item or boutique would you recommend, and what story would you tell about it?
If a guest only has a few minutes to shop, we suggest visiting our Lilly Pulitzer Signature Shop, as it’s truly the ultimate resort shopping experience. The moment you step inside, you’re surrounded by color, confidence, and that unmistakable sense of vacation joy that Lilly captures so beautifully. The prints are vibrant, the silhouettes are timeless, and everything feels effortlessly perfect for poolside afternoons, brunch on the patio, or evenings under the desert sky. It’s that perfect blend of sophistication, sunshine, and fun—everything resort living should be.

BE PRESENT
In an ever-accelerating world, there is value in consciously pausing. Time itself is not our scarcest resource - our perception of it is.
QLOCKTWO presents time as human culture once understood it: not as numbers, but as an experience. A gentle reminder to pause, become aware of the present moment, and be present.
Handcrafted in Germany with precision, attention to detail, and a deep appreciation for materiality, QLOCKTWO creates objects that transform the way we experience time. Founded by artists and designers Marco Biegert and Andreas Funk, QLOCKTWO combines innovative time visualization, contemporary design, and exceptional craftsmanship.
EARTH - The Icon of Origin
Born from the radical question, “What is time?”, QLOCKTWO EARTH has become a modern design icon. Instead of hands or digits, it illuminates the moment in words:
“IT IS HALF PAST EIGHT”
Available in more than twenty languages and a curated palette of exceptional finishes — from pure white and oxidized steel to raw stone and hand-applied gold leaf — each piece reflects the individuality of its owner. Whether in a lakeside villa, a mountain retreat, or a city penthouse, QLOCKTWO EARTH transforms interiors into spaces of calm, presence, and design.
MOON - The Rhythm of Time For centuries, the moon has fascinated humanity. A constant companion to Earth, it has shaped our understanding of time, inspired countless stories, and connected cultures across the world. QLOCKTWO MOON visualizes one of our oldest measures of time through 28 illuminated lunar phases, making the rhythm of the month visible and tangible. Inspired by the celestial cycle that has guided cultures for generations, it reconnects us with a more natural experience of time. Hand-finished in lacquer, platinum, or moon gold, each piece combines German craftsmanship with sculptural design, transforming the passage of time into a moment of reflection. MOON does not measure time. It mesmerizes it, making the present itself feel eternal. W - The Wristwatch QLOCKTWO W brings the iconic word-based time display to the wearer’s wrist, transforming time into a personal experience. Reduced to the essentials, QLOCKTWO W combines timeless aesthetics with iconic design. A simple flick of the wrist reveals the time in words, creating a subtle moment of awareness throughout the day. A quiet companion that invites its wearer to pause, reflect, and be present. Each QLOCKTWO is handcrafted, numbered, and individually finished — no two are ever alike. Surfaces are treated like canvases, reflecting a singular devotion to materiality, craftsmanship, and detail. Its integrated moon phase display brings together the worlds of EARTH and MOON, creating a seamless connection between the rhythm of the day and the rhythm of the month. Every QLOCKTWO begins with time. What it creates is presence. Winner of more than 40 international design awards, QLOCKTWO stands as a symbol of a new precision — one that measures not seconds, but moments. As co-founder Andreas Funk reflects: “The more you try to grasp time, the more it disappears. What remains is the beauty of the now.” QLOCKTWO 7405 Alban Station Ct, Suite A106 Springfield, VA 22150 571-642-5441 FAIRMONT SCOTTSDALE PRINCESS 83

what the experts say...
A Living Conversation Between Desert and Imagination
Frank Lloyd Wright described his architecture as being “of its time, of its place, and dedicated to producing an environment of beauty for the life of mankind.” His vision stretched beyond design into a philosophy of living, where buildings were not imposed on the land but grew from it. Nowhere is that idea more vividly alive than at Taliesin West, his desert laboratory and winter home.
Tucked into the McDowell Mountains, Taliesin West feels less like a building and more like a living conversation between people and place. Each line and shadow here tells a story of discovery.
The low walls echo the ridges beyond them, and the glass-and-canvas roofs blur the line between inside and out. To stand within these spaces is to feel the rhythm of the desert.
Today, Taliesin West remains alive with that spirit of curiosity.

what the experts say...
Scottsdale has a magic to it, a kind of sunlit hospitality that invites you to slow down and truly notice the world around you.
One of the most meaningful ways to experience that feeling is through art. If you’re wondering where to begin your art journey, start with curiosity. Step into a studio, linger at an easel, watch color move across canvas or metal take shape beneath skilled hands. When you meet the artist behind the work, art becomes less about expertise and more about connection. In these encounters, art becomes an experience rather than an object. It can steady the mind, spark joy, and add a sense of well-being to your stay.
For more than three decades, the Celebration of Fine Art has invited guests to explore, observe, and discover pieces that resonate on a personal level. If you’re ready to begin—or continue—your art journey, we’re here to welcome you in.

Arizona’s Golf Capital
Scottsdale has a long history with the game of golf, dating back more than 100 years to primitive oiled-dirt courses. Over time, the remarkable weather, rolling desert terrain, and increasingly luxurious amenities began to attract celebrity golfers like Bing Crosby and legendary professionals such as Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus.
During the 1980s and ‘90s, Scottsdale solidified its reputation as a golf capital. One of the major events that brought Scottsdale international recognition was the now-famous Skins Game held at Desert Highlands from 1983 to 1985. Broadcast worldwide on Thanksgiving Weekend, it featured golf legends such as Nicklaus, Palmer, Gary Player, and Tom Watson.

Exceptional Golf Courses
Ultimately, Scottsdale's status as a world-class golf destination rests on its golf courses. The city boasts more than 50 golf courses, totaling over 1,200 holes, and the broader Valley of the Sun area contains over 200 golf courses.
Many of the golf courses are celebrated for their legendary status. Some feature highly challenging layouts that attract golfers eager to test themselves on the same grounds where professional tournaments are held. Others showcase the beauty of desert golf, with fairways and greens that blend seamlessly into the natural landscape.
Across the region, courses range from majestic and demanding to serene and scenic, offering a variety of experiences for golfers of all skill levels.
Year-Round Golf
Scottsdale's golf scene has also achieved legendary status thanks to the climate. There is no off-season for golf here, with over 300 days of sunshine each year. Winters are mild, and even during the hottest parts of summer, morning tee times are seldom too hot for comfort. Winter golf attracts snowbirds from colder areas, and playing during summer offers an opportunity to enjoy uncrowded clubhouses and fairways.

DESERT DREAMS
INVESTING IN SCOTTSDALE LUXURY REAL ESTATE
How the Sonoran Desert Became One of the Nation’s Most Closely Watched Luxury Markets
Against the backdrop of jagged desert mountains and wide, sunlit valleys, the Scottsdale area has quietly become one of the most closely watched luxury real estate markets in the United States. What began decades ago as a winter retreat for seasonal visitors has evolved into a year-round hub for buyers seeking space, privacy, and a particular kind of desert elegance that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
It’s a shift many guests notice the moment they step off the terrace at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and take in the McDowell Mountains rising just beyond the property line—the same view, in one form or another, that anchors so many of the estates now changing hands nearby.
The appeal is not simply the climate, though a near-endless run of sunny days certainly helps. It is the way the desert landscape itself has shaped an architectural language: low-slung silhouettes, walls of glass, and materials chosen to blend with rather than fight the terrain. Buyers drawn to this market often seek more than square footage; they want a home that feels inseparable from its surroundings.
The Architecture of the Desert
Custom estates across the region increasingly favor a design vocabulary built around indoor-outdoor living. Retractable glass walls dissolve the boundary between living room and courtyard, infinity-edge pools appear to spill toward the horizon, and native landscaping, including saguaro, ocotillo, and palo verde, is treated as a design feature rather than an afterthought.
This approach reflects a broader national trend in luxury architecture: a move away from ornamentation and toward material honesty. Stone, weathered steel, and warm woods dominate, selected for how they age in the desert light rather than for how they photograph. The result is a style of home that feels distinctly Southwestern without leaning on cliché. It is a refined desert modernism rather than desert kitsch.
The desert doesn’t just surround these homes. It shapes them, room by room, view by view.
Gated Communities and the Rise of Resort-Style Living
Much of the recent growth in the luxury segment has centered on master-planned, gated communities that blend privacy with resort-level amenities. Residents often have access to private golf courses, hiking trails threaded through preserved desert washes, and clubhouses that function as social hubs in their own right. Many of these communities sit within a short drive of the Camelback and McDowell corridors, close enough that a morning spent exploring trailheads near the resort can easily turn into an afternoon touring nearby neighborhoods.
This model appeals to a buyer profile that has shifted noticeably in recent years, with fewer purely seasonal residents and more full-time transplants relocating from denser, colder, or higher-tax states. For many, the decision is no longer about owning a vacation property but about relocating a primary residence to a place that offers both lifestyle and long-term value.
Golf remains a defining feature of this landscape. The valley’s collection of championship-caliber courses, framed by mountain backdrops, continues to anchor community identity even as buyer interests diversify toward wellness amenities, art walks, and outdoor dining. It’s not unusual for visitors to play a round on one of the courses framing the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and leave with a very different question than the one they arrived with: not just where to stay next time, but whether to stay for good.

Reading the Investment Case
From a purely financial perspective, the luxury segment here has demonstrated resilience through several real estate cycles, supported by consistent migration, limited land available for new large-lot development, and a climate that sustains year-round tourism and second-home demand.
Inventory at the upper end of the market tends to be tighter than in more commoditized price bands, which has historically supported price stability even when broader housing markets cool.
That said, luxury real estate is never immune to macroeconomic forces. Interest rates, broader migration trends, and shifts in remote-work culture all influence buyer behavior at this level.
Prospective buyers and investors should treat any purchase in this market, as in any market, as a long-term decision informed by their own financial circumstances, ideally in consultation with independent legal and financial professionals rather than by general commentary alone.
What appears consistent is the desert’s ability to maintain its appeal across economic cycles. Buyers are not simply purchasing square footage; they are purchasing a set of experiences: dark skies, dramatic sunsets, and an outdoor season that runs nearly year-round, all of which remain in finite supply.

A Lifestyle as Much as a Location
Perhaps the most telling shift in the luxury market here is not architectural but cultural. Buyers today ask different questions than they did a decade ago: not just how large the lot is, but how close the nearest trailhead is; not just how many bathrooms a home has, but how many months a year meals can be enjoyed outdoors.
That reframing, from home as an asset to home as a daily experience, may be the single most important trend shaping this market’s next chapter. It’s a reframing that often starts on vacation. A week spent poolside at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, with the desert light shifting across the mountains each evening, has a way of turning “someday” into a serious conversation with a real estate agent. The desert has always offered space. Increasingly, it is being asked to offer meaning as well, and for a growing number of buyers, this corner of the Southwest continues to answer that call, one custom estate at a time.

Wellness in the Desert
WELLNESS IN THE DESERT
HOLISTIC RITUALS FOR MIND, BODY, AND BALANCE
There is a particular quality of quiet in the Sonoran Desert that seems to slow your pulse the moment you notice it. It is a place of wide skies, distant mountains softened by heat haze, and a stillness broken only by wind moving through saguaro and creosote. This landscape has long attracted people seeking not just relaxation but genuine restoration. Step onto the grounds of the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess at sunrise, and that quiet is immediate: the desert asserting itself before the day’s first activity begins. In recent years, that instinct has crystallized into something more deliberate: a wellness culture rooted in the desert’s character, rather than borrowed wholesale from other traditions.
The Desert as the First Therapist
Long before spa menus and treatment rooms, the desert itself served as a kind of therapy. Extreme temperature ranges, dry air, and dramatic light have shaped a landscape that rewards presence. A midday hike cannot be rushed here, nor can the sky at dusk be ignored. Much of the region’s wellness programming is now explicitly built around these natural rhythms: sunrise movement sessions timed for the cooler hours, sound and breathwork practices held outdoors as temperatures shift, and evening rituals synced to the sunset’s fast-changing light.
This attentiveness to timing is not incidental. Circadian-aware wellness, which aligns activity, rest, and even meals with natural light cycles, has become a defining thread of desert-based programs, distinguishing this destination’s approach from more climate-agnostic wellness models elsewhere. Guests at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess often remark that their internal clock resets within a day or two of arrival, nudged along by mountain sunrises and evenings that cool just as the sky turns copper over Camelback.
Rituals Rooted in the Land
Contemporary spa treatments across the region increasingly draw on desert-native ingredients: prickly pear extracts, mineral-rich clay, sage, and salts sourced from local deposits.
This is a genuine engagement with place, a recognition that the same landscape shaping the area’s architecture and cuisine can also inform how the body is cared for.
Hot stone massage takes on new meaning here, using stones warmed to mimic the desert’s own retained heat.
Clay wraps and mineral soaks draw on the geology of the surrounding mountains, and treatment spaces open to breezes and mountain views rather than sealing guests behind artificial fixtures.
At the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, this philosophy runs through two distinct spaces. Well & Being Spa pairs desert-inspired treatments with fitness classes, carrying that same vitality from the treatment room into movement. SisleyParis Spa brings French skincare into conversation with the Sonoran landscape. Guests can move between the two, relaxing into a treatment at one and rounding out the day with a class at the other.
Here, wellness isn’t imported; it’s excavated from the landscape, and at the Princess, there’s more than one way to experience it.
Movement, Breath, and Mindful Practice
Physical wellness in the desert extends well beyond the spa. An extensive network of trails, winding through preserves and past ancient rock formations, has become an informal fitness and mindfulness circuit in its own right.
Several of these trailheads sit within easy reach of the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, making it possible to step from a guest room into a mindful hike before breakfast.
Early-morning hikers often describe the practice not as exercise but as a form of moving meditation, with the steady rhythm of footsteps on desert gravel serving a purpose similar to that of any formal breathwork session.
Outdoor yoga and movement sessions are often scheduled around sunrise or sunset, both to avoid the heat of the day and to take advantage of the distinctive quality of desert light at those hours.
Guided meditation, sometimes held in canyon settings or beside quiet washes, leans into the desert’s acoustic stillness, an environment nearly free of ambient urban noise, which practitioners note can measurably affect how quickly participants settle into a meditative state.

Nourishment from the Desert Pantry
Nutrition has become an equally important pillar of the region’s wellness identity. Functional and integrative eating approaches, centered on antiinflammatory ingredients, seasonal produce, and hydration strategies suited to an arid climate, have grown alongside more traditional spa offerings. Citrus, dates, prickly pear, and desert-grown herbs feature prominently on menus designed with climate in mind, favoring hydration and light, nutrient-dense meals over heavier fare better suited to cooler regions.
This is less a trend than an adaptation: eating in step with an environment where the sun dictates energy levels far more directly than in temperate climates. Many visitors, including those dining poolside at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess after a morning hike, report a noticeable shift in appetite and vitality after just a few days of eating and moving in sync with the desert’s natural rhythms.
A Balanced Way of Life What distinguishes wellness culture here is its refusal to separate practice from place. Meditation without the desert’s particular silence, treatments without desertnative ingredients, and movement without the region’s specific light and terrain: none of it would carry quite the same meaning elsewhere. It is precisely this integration of land, light, and ritual that has transformed the desert from a mere backdrop into an active participant in the pursuit of balance. For visitors, the invitation is simple: slow down, notice the rhythm the desert has always kept, and let it recalibrate a pace of life too often dictated by something else entirely. Whether that recalibration begins on a resort terrace at dawn or deep on a canyon trail, the desert seems to meet each visitor exactly where they are.
