Our Resort

Welcome

Welcome to beautiful Antigua, and a further welcome to Tamarind Hills Resort and Villas, the finest address on the island. Our team hopes to become a huge part of crafting the most memorable vacation for you.

Just 17 degrees north of the equator and basking in delightful tropical temperatures all year round, the island of Antigua lies at the heart of the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. Those ‘in the know’ will tell you that Antigua has 365 beaches, one to enjoy every day of the year.

However, Antigua has many other land and sea activities. From scuba diving over coral reefs and swimming at Stingray City to paddling on a Mangrove Kayak Tour and golfing at Cedar Valley Club, there are countless activities to enjoy. Hiking, walking, and Jeep Safari or Buggy Tours are also exceptional experiences.

Antigua also offers a variety of attractions to visit. A must-see is the Georgian charm of Nelson’s Dockyard, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, set within a yachtsman’s paradise. No vacation would be complete without a visit to Shirley Heights Lookout, the 18th-century British guard post. On Thursdays and Sundays, the breathtaking views are accompanied by the sweet sounds of a Caribbean steelband, exhilarating reggae rhythms, calypso, and soca performances.

Other recommended attractions include Devil’s Bridge National Park, the famous Half Moon Bay, and the pastel-washed waterfront of the capital, St. John’s.

Barbuda, Antigua’s sister island, is known for its pristine 17-mile stretch of pink sand beach and is teeming with wildlife and rare birds. Just a 15-minute flight or a two-hour ferry ride, it offers an excellent Robinson Crusoe-style escape.

While at Tamarind Hills, enjoy a variety of culinary and dining delights, all with exquisite views of the soft white sand of Ffryes Beach and the Caribbean Sea. Our Executive Chef and his team have created a fusion of Caribbean delicacies with a variety of international cuisines. An extensive wine list and expertly crafted cocktails complement our delicious food. Enjoy all these delights at our Wild Tamarind Restaurant, by the pool, on the beach, at the Hummingbird Bar, the Terrace Bar, the Beach Bar, or through room service.

Our concierge team can arrange bookings for all your dining, activities, and attractions.

We look forward to crafting an experience of a lifetime for you here in Antigua at Tamarind Hills!

Warm regards,

Tamarind Hills Resort and Villas team

Experiences You Can Trust

GREAT EXPERIENCES BEYOND THE HOTEL COME FROM CONNECTING WITH LEADING LOCAL BUSINESSES

VISITING SOMEWHERE NEW OR RETURNING TO A FAVORITE DESTINATION IS ALWAYS AN EXCITING EXPERIENCE

When organized effectively and by those with great connections and unmatched local knowledge, it can be one of life’s most exciting adventures. If you are reading this, then you have chosen to stay in one of the finest hotels the luxury hospitality industry has to offer. You are in the safe hands of a world-class hotel team that will look after your every need from the second you arrive until the moment you leave.

The challenge begins with creating a fun and varied itinerary for when you venture beyond the comfort of the hotel. The good news is that you don’t have to navigate this alone. There are exceptional local businesses available to curate unforgettable experiences for you. At Greydoor Publishing, we firmly believe that as a valued guest of a world-renowned hotel, you shouldn’t have to depend on an internet search to find these. We think you deserve something more refined than that.

Every hotel guest seeks an extraordinary experience from start to finish, yet every guest’s vision of the perfect trip is unique. Families seek engaging entertainment. Couples desire fine dining. Businesspeople need efficient transport. Thrill-seekers crave outdoor excursions. As we understand the diversity of the hotel’s clientele, our magazine avoids a one-size-fits-all approach to guiding your stay.

THAT’S WHERE THE EXPERIENCES MAGAZINE COMES IN.

Working with the hand-selected businesses listed within this magazine means avoiding the pitfalls of choosing the wrong local experiences, enabling you to make the most of your time in this outstanding location. Given their association with this industry-leading hotel, you can rest assured that these trusted professionals will provide premium products and invaluable services to ensure you enjoy a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Through the hard work and tenacity of Greydoor Publishing and Tamarind Hills Resort and Villas, this publication provides details of the local companies that are best placed to serve your needs and requirements when you find yourself in unfamiliar surroundings.

While we appreciate the excitement of spontaneity, we believe there’s a better time and place for it. Whether you’re staying at the hotel for business or leisure, your time is precious and playing it by ear could be a risk. Choosing the wrong restaurant can spoil a romantic evening, unreliable transportation can result in missed connections, and unsatisfactory guided tours can leave you feeling short-changed.

Together in Antigua

Romantic Experiences for Every Couple

With its luminous waters, charming coastal towns and timeless landscape, Antigua is effortlessly romantic. There are many ways for couples to seek romance, adventure and a closer connection here. But Antigua is more than a postcard-perfect destination, and there is more to it than a curated itinerary might suggest. A romantic trip here offers splendid views and spectacular sunsets, but it also offers a sense of discovery and a diverse range of experiences for every couple.

Sea Breezes and Sunsets

The sea is inseparable from daily life in Antigua, and some of the island’s most romantic experiences happen here. There is something undeniably magical about drifting along the coastline at golden hour and watching the sunset with tropical cocktails in hand.

Private sunset catamaran cruises offer a classic Antiguan experience perfect for couples. Sailing past quiet beaches and rocky coastlines together, couples can enjoy the quiet and calm of the water along with a true sense of escape. Longer sailing excursions and island-hopping adventures offer something more immersive, combining romance with discovery.

Adventures for Two

While romance often thrives in quiet moments, it can also come alive with a shared burst of adrenaline. Antigua offers no shortage of high-energy activities that allow couples to bond over a shared love for adventure.

Stingray City is a standout. At this beautiful spot on the island’s northeast coast, visitors can snorkel the shallow Caribbean waters among the abundant native stingrays in the company of a knowledgeable guide. The stingrays are gentle and unbothered by humans, who can interact with and even feed these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

On land, Antigua rainforest zipline tours offer an opportunity to soar through the island’s lush canopy. Hiking to Shirley Heights is another beautiful experience, rewarding couples with sweeping views over English Harbour.

Hidden Beaches and Secluded Escapes

Some of the most romantic moments in Antigua take place in settings that feel undiscovered. With 365 beaches dotting the island’s coastline, many reward minimal effort with near-total privacy.

Rendezvous Bay, for example, is accessible only by boat or on foot, which keeps many tourists away. With clear water and powdery sand, the beach offers a remarkable sense of isolation, perfect for packing a picnic for a romantic lunch by the sea.

For a somewhat more curated — but no less special — escape, try a day trip to Prickly Pear Island. Here, couples can snorkel, sunbathe, and enjoy freshly prepared seafood on the beach.

Romantic Dining Experiences

While land and sea offer wild playgrounds for couples in search of romance and adventure, the island’s culinary scene provides a different kind of playground. The culinary landscape ranges from intimate waterfront dining and casual rum bars to upscale restaurants with elevated cuisine and timeless ambiance.

One of the best ways for couples to engage with Antigua’s food scene is through a guided culinary tour. Food and drink tours in Antigua offer experiences that range from rum tastings and cooking classes to grilling lobsters on the beach and sampling the fresh catch of the day from local fishermen.

Culture, History, and Shared Discovery

There are many ways to dig deeper into Antigua’s history and culture. And for many couples, the sense of discovery that comes with exploring the island can be deeply powerful.

A stroll through Nelson’s Dockyard is a great place to begin. Located in English Harbour on the island’s south coast, this beautifully restored 18th- and 19th-century naval base features cobblestone paths, historic buildings, and a stunning waterfront.

Closer to the capital city of St. John’s, Fort James is another stunning historical site, one that provides a glimpse into the island’s colonial past. Cannons and the ruins of fortified walls overlook the rugged coast where panoramic views stretch to the horizon. Nearby in St. John’s, a quiet walk through the Victoria Park Botanical Gardens offers a peaceful retreat.

Shopping Local

Across Antigua, a variety of shops and markets offer opportunities for couples to browse clothing, home goods, art, and decor — much of it handmade by local artists and makers. Shopping offers a dash of indulgence — a must for any romantic getaway — that also helps support local creatives.

St. John’s is very much the island’s retail center. Redcliffe Quay is a perennial favorite in the city — a quaint shopping enclave where shoppers can find everything from local art and limited-edition jewelry to freshly made ice cream. Just a few blocks away, Heritage Quay is a more modern shopping boulevard.

The bustling St. John’s Public Market Complex offers a very different experience. It is not a tourist spot, but rather a community gathering place where residents come almost every day of the week to shop for fresh produce and other local goods.

Discover Romance in Antigua For couples in search of romance and connection, Antigua offers unmistakable appeal. Exploring Antigua does not require a fixed itinerary, with sheltered coves, historic sites, and bustling city center all within a day’s journey. ONE-DAY Adventure Itinerary in Antigua

While it may not be possible to fit all of Antigua’s attractions into a single day, it is possible to pack a great deal of adventure into 24 hours. The key is to choose variety without attempting so many activities that the day feels chaotic.

MORNING:

SNORKEL CADES REEF

On Antigua’s southwest coast, Cades Reef stretches nearly two miles. It is one of the island’s most accessible reefs, located just a short boat ride from the shore, making it ideal for snorkelers of all experience levels. Brain coral, sea fans, and schools of colorful reef fish abound, with sailing and snorkeling tours departing from the Jolly Harbour area.

MIDDAY:

KAYAK NORTH SOUND MARINE PARK

Heading northeast to North Sound offers an opportunity to explore one of Antigua’s most ecologically rich areas. Shallow lagoons and mangrove channels abound with life, from sea turtles that glide beneath the surface to wading birds that stalk the shallows. Guided paddling eco-tours allow guests to experience the tranquil waters from the comfort of a kayak.

AFTERNOON:

ZIPLINE THROUGH THE RAINFOREST

After spending the first part of the day on the coast, shifting to the island’s interior provides a different perspective. On an Antigua Rainforest Canopy Tour, guests soar through the southwestern rainforest on a series of thrilling ziplines, with some runs stretching hundreds of feet and providing expansive views of the lush canopy and distant hills.

EVENING:

SUNSET AT SHIRLEY HEIGHTS

Finish the day at Shirley Heights, a stunning lookout that provides panoramic views of English and Falmouth Harbours from 490 feet. The site of a former military outpost, Shirley Heights is home to a lively restaurant and bar as well as a scenic overlook. TWO-DAY Adventure Itinerary in Antigua

With two days to work with, it becomes possible to experience more variety while also slowing down the pace. Two days also provides time for more distinctive experiences, especially those that require more travel time on the water.

DAY ONE: Wildlife and Offshore Adventure

MORNING:

STINGRAY CITY

Just off Antigua’s northeastern coast near Seaton’s Village, Stingray City is one of the island’s most well-known attractions. Following a short boat ride out to a sandbar, visitors wade through waist-deep water where gentle southern stingrays glide peacefully below the surface. Visibility is excellent, and guests can also feed the stingrays.

AFTERNOON:

SNORKELING AND ISLAND-HOPPING TOUR

A short boat ride from Stingray City, Great Bird Island is part of a cluster of smaller islands within North Sound Marine Park. Rugged and uninhabited, it is a favorite stop for guided island-hopping tours. Many excursions include short hikes in the island’s interior with stretches of beach time and snorkeling the reefs that surround it.

EVENING:

BEACH BREAK AT HALF MOON BAY

Half Moon Bay, on Antigua’s southeastern coast, offers a moment of tranquility before retiring at the end of the day. This crescent-shaped bay is less developed than many beaches on the west side of the island. Paddleboarding and horseback riding are available, but it is also a perfect spot to simply relax and enjoy the sound of the waves rolling in.

MORNING: MIDDAY: LATE AFTERNOON: HIKE WALLINGS NATURE RESERVE EXPLORE FIG TREE DRIVE DISCOVER RENDEZVOUS BAY

Antigua’s landscape is every bit as stunning as its beaches, and Wallings Nature Reserve, tucked into the island’s southwest interior, offers a network of trails that cut through gorgeous secondary rainforests and former plantation land. Hiking here ranges from easy to moderately strenuous, and the lush terrain rewards trekkers with refined views and frequent bird sightings.

A scenic route that meanders through Antigua’s southern interior, Fig Tree Drive is a 5-mile route that offers one of the island’s most idyllic scenic drives. The road passes through the lush rainforest of the Shekerley Mountains as well as fertile agricultural land. Drive it without a fixed itinerary, allowing ample time to stop at roadside stands and attractions along the way.

Wind down after two days of adventure at Rendezvous Bay, a secluded spot on the southern shore of the island. It is one of Antigua’s wildest and most beautiful beaches, but it tends to be less crowded than most because it is accessible only by boat or on foot. The hike to the beach takes about 30 minutes and ends with a truly serene and beautiful stretch of sand.

FLAVORS OF THE CARIBBEAN

Exploring Antigua’s Culinary Scene

Antigua’s beauty signals itself first with turquoise waters and powder-soft beaches. But there is another kind of beauty here, one that must be savored slowly. The culinary landscape of Antigua is every bit as compelling as the physical landscape, and its rich depths tell a story of heritage, creativity, and resilience. A tapestry of cultures unfolds across Antigua’s tables, where African, Indigenous, and European influences intertwine to create a distinctive island cuisine. The food here is rooted and alive, and the recipes are not museum pieces. They reflect generations of cooks working with the bounty of the land and sea.

Soul of the Island: Signature Dishes

The cuisine of Antigua often spotlights seafood. Saltfish, grilled lobster, and conch fritters are widely enjoyed. But there is also much more to the island’s rich culinary tradition. Corn, root vegetables, salted meats, and warming spices are prominent ingredients around which many plates revolve. The most recognizable dishes are pepperpot and fungee, two iconic foods that are traditionally served together.

Pepperpot is a must-try cornerstone of Antiguan cuisine. It is a rich, dark, and deeply aromatic stew in which meats — often pork — are simmered slowly alongside leafy greens, okra, and a medley of spices. Its origins can be traced back to African traditions, and it’s prepared with slight variations in households all over Antigua.

The counterpoint to pepperpot’s bold richness is fungee, a savory cornmeal and okra dish not unlike polenta. Its role is a supportive one: it absorbs sauce, softens stronger flavors, and gives structure to the meal.

Another classic Antiguan dish is goat water, a dish whose name might surprise first-time visitors. But this thin-yet-hearty stew made with tender goat meat on the bone in a spicy, herb-infused broth invariably wins over diners. Try it with traditional side dishes like ducana — a sweet and savory dish made with sweet potatoes and spices — or Johnny cakes.

Tradition and Evolution: A Modern Culinary Renaissance

While tradition anchors Antigua’s food culture, innovation propels it forward. Across the island, new generations of chefs are reinterpreting classic dishes, introducing global influences, and refining techniques and presentations without losing touch with the cuisine’s deep roots.

Farm-to-table dining has gained traction, with modern menus increasingly shifting their focus toward local ingredients like fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and island-grown vegetables. Dishes shift with the seasons and reflect pride in sourcing locally. It is a commitment that not only enhances the freshness of the flavors but also supports the island’s fishing culture and agricultural community.

Much of Antigua’s culinary experimentation is concentrated in St. John’s, the capital and largest city. The faster pace here seems to foster a dining scene that moves easily between traditional and contemporary. Many restaurants here offer sweeping waterfront views and serve unique, elevated takes on Caribbean classics like ceviche, and conch fritters.

Just outside the capital, areas like English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour, have developed their own culinary identity, shaped in part by international visitors and a strong yachting culture. And in roadside kitchens and beach-adjacent seafood shacks all along Antigua’s coastline, diners are likely to encounter contemporary flavors alongside classic dishes.

Festivals of Flavor: Celebrating Antigua’s Culinary Spirit

Food is frequently at the center of Antigua’s day-to-day life, but there are certain seasons and events that bring the island’s love for food into sharper focus. For visitors who want to experience the full breadth of Antiguan food and drink, these events offer the perfect opportunity for full immersion.

Antigua’s Food Art and Beverage Festival — often abbreviated as FAB Fest — captures the spirit of island cooking beautifully. It is as much about creativity as it is about cuisine, offering local food vendors, chef and mixologist demonstrations, live music, and arts and crafts from local makers. Foodies will find traditionally prepared staples, cutting-edge new dishes, and everything in between.

FAB Fest is part of a larger celebration called Antigua and Barbuda Culinary Month, which is held annually across the entire month of May. As a celebration of food and drink that spans multiple weeks, this event truly highlights the incredible depth and diversity of Antigua and Barbuda’s dining culture, featuring everything from restaurant showcases to cooking demonstrations.

An Invitation to Savor

In Antigua, food is essential to the island experience. Meals are often communal, reflecting Antigua’s welcoming spirit. Sharing a table often sparks conversation and leads to a deeper understanding of the island and its people.
